“Nagi” (凪) is a Japanese word with no direct translation: the moment the wind falls still and the sea turns to glass. It is also the state a freediver looks for inside — the quiet before the descent.
NAGI is a small freediving school based between Okinawa and the Izu peninsula. We teach the AIDA system, from first breath-holds to AIDA3, in three languages — English, Japanese and Chinese — because the calm that freediving asks of you is hard to find in a language you only half understand.
We keep groups small on purpose. Four students per instructor is our maximum, and most days are smaller than that.
One-on-one supervision on every dive, strict buddy protocols, and conservative progression. Depth is a byproduct of doing things right.
Theory, briefings and feedback in English, Japanese or Chinese — taught directly, not through an app.
